A Beautiful Little Knitter

Dear Reader,

Just when Word Raccoon and I despaired of any more nice days to write on the porch, today arrived. After yesterday’s gloomy non-day, we are cheering.

Being involved in Operation Find New Gig and attempting to recover from a cold, we have not had enough writing time the past few days and woke up feeling icky for it. So here we are, on the porch, having revised and textured a few pages of Reaccessioned. Same section as before, moving more slowly.

We have made it through four and a quarter pages of revisions aided by our new “friend,” Focus Friend, a productivity app from the mind of Hank Green. (Not a sponsored post.)

Free to download and to use, though there are cool features if you upgrade (WR wants to but is on a budget), you simply set the amount of time you want to focus, start the app, and your bean (you can rename it but I can’t bring myself to, not yet, although I’m quite sure a name will present itself and eventually it, too, will join the Word Raccoon universe) KNITS socks the entire time if you leave your phone alone. Start flipping through and apparently the bean gets sad and stops knitting. (I can’t bear to see that so I am leaving it ALONE during a round!)

You can trade in the sock points to decorate Bean’s room. So far mine has art I bought for its wall and a plant.

If you upgrade, your bean can knit scarves, too. I’m so tempted…they even have a special on the upgrade right now FOR LIFE! (No, WR, no! Not yet!)

Get this — you can also upgrade to a Hank Green bean or a John Green bean. So if I did that, I could watch one of them knit as I write. C’mon!

Anyway, WR flutters her eyelashes at Bean when I open the app, and then she puts her fingers to the keyboard to write. She’s not about to disappoint the poor little guy.

She’s off to vote later this afternoon. Then she will make chicken wings. (I told you WR has a frat boy’s tastes some days. She’s serving the wings with Asian Zing sauce and celery, of course.)

She is also about a third of the way through The Song of the Lark. I’m begging her to speed up, but life has been getting in the way. We’re still enjoying the novel, though WR did forget about her Commonplace Book already until she was listening to The Lazy Genius podcast today. Sigh.

Sidenote: the genius behind the podcast apparently recently discovered Fleetwood Mac. I’m so happy, but also, not until now, Kendra? That’s kinda cool, though. Imagine being able to rediscover a band.

WR has a welcome webinar to her latest gig tomorrow. She’s nervous. What if she can’t pass the skills test? What even is covered?

She set an autosubscribe for another household paper good today. The freer her brain, the better.

Back to the novel for a bit today.

She hopes the autumn sun blesses you the way I do.

Drema

P.S. The title – if you know, you know.
