Dishes and VisionQuest Do Not Equal Writing

Dear Reader,

I have a blog post almost finished, and yet, I can’t finish it. It’s about leaving a literary legacy, and it’s not saying what I want it to say yet.

Word Raccoon blames John Green and what he said in his short about legacy, but more on that another day. (And WR, be nice! No blaming allowed.)

Today has not gone as envisioned, but that’s okay. Awaiting a call to pick up a vehicle from the mechanic without an actual call coming in, but still on duty for it. Having to share the day and the house when I wasn’t expecting to. Which is fine, but WR was hoping to write and instead watched two episodes of VisionQuest. A phone call with a friend. Dishes that have piled up (and how?) that needed doing.

But in all of this, I cannot believe I am still able to write on the porch in the evening in late October. (Not that I’ve done any creative writing today to speak of. I did write a few overly sentimental lines, but WR does not care if they are. She will bite the kneecaps of anyone who dares tell her they are, and poetry that sways under emotion like a bobby-soxer’s knees at a concert can be strengthened later, she says.)

She insists on showing you. Sigh.

Don’t you worry –

I will mourn you

long and loud.

I will embarrass your

spirit with the volume of

my screams.

I will haunt your tomb

Like a determined ant.

I will do all of that.

Okay, I just wrote that from a line I had saved in my phone, so I guess I should copy it into my drafts file. I think it’s just a stub for now… “determined” isn’t the right word, and I think the poem will end up longer. We’ll see.

Today I also submitted two packets of poetry. I wanted to get to another, but my eyes said no.

Maybe tomorrow I can finish up the legacy post. It will keep.

Word Raccoon did not get her brownies today. Perhaps tomorrow. I’ll have to add extra walnuts to appease her.

Writing this makes me want to return to my novel.

Drema

P.S. I am changing over host services for the podcast, so if there are any interruptions, they should be temporary.
